Importing: what comes across

iPhoneiPadAndroidWebMacWindowsLinuxWatchUpdated 2026-08-30

What imports generally preserve, and what they generally do not.

What survives, from any source

Text. The actual words always come across. That is the part that matters and it is reliably intact.

Rough grouping. Notes usually become lists, and items usually become things.

What generally does not

This is not a set of gaps to be closed later. Twos is a simpler model on purpose, and an import is a translation into that model.

Bring what you'll use

Old apps collect a lot you'll never open again, and Twos works best when you start light. After you choose a file, a preview shows every list the import found, with how many things, to-dos, reminders and photos each one holds. Every list starts ticked. Untick the ones you don't want, and nothing is created until you approve.

The formats

Settings Data Import data accepts Markdown, plain text, CSV, JSON, OPML, TaskPaper, Word (.docx) and PDF. A PDF comes across as its text, rebuilt into headings, paragraphs and lists. A scanned or handwritten PDF has no text inside, so nothing comes across from it. Source-specific pages cover Apple Notes, Obsidian, Todoist, Evernote, Google Tasks, Google Keep, Notion, Day One, Things 3, OmniFocus, Word and Google Docs, reMarkable, Any.do, Superlist and mymind, Workflowy, Dynalist and Logseq, Bear, Roam, NotePlan and other Markdown apps and Microsoft Loop.

Importing safely

  1. 1

Export your existing Twos data first

So a bad import is trivially reversible. See export your things.

  2. 2

    Import a small sample

One notebook, not the whole archive. Check it looks right.

  3. 3

    Import the rest

Then clean up in bulk with the Things view. See select many things at once.

The bigger advice

Do not import in your first week. Use Twos on new material until days and carry-over feel natural, then bring the archive in. Importing first tends to recreate your old system, which is the main way migrations fail. See coming from another app.
