Progress circle

A list can show a ring in its header that fills as you check things off.

Why you'd care

On a list with an end, like packing, a checklist or a project, knowing you are 70% through is motivating, and it tells you at a glance how much is left.

Turning it on

Open the list, then List settings from the ... menu in its header, and turn on Show progress circle. It works on days too.

Settings Appearance & accessibility Progress circles on lists turns it on for every new list you make.

What it counts

The ring counts to-dos: how many of the list's to-dos are checked off. A list with no to-dos counts its other things instead, so a notes list you check off still fills up.

Web, Mac, Windows, and Linux

Hover over the ring to see the exact percentage.

Going further

Keep it for lists that end. On a running list that grows forever the ring never fills, which is why it is a per-list choice rather than always on.

Tips

  • A progress circle that never moves is a sign the list is really a reference list, not a checklist.

If it's not working

I turned on the setting and my list still has no circle. Settings Appearance & accessibility Progress circles on lists only applies to lists and days created after you turn it on. Lists and days you already have, including upcoming days that were made ahead of time, keep their own choice. Open the list, then List settings from the ... menu in its header, and turn on Show progress circle there.

The circle is on but not showing. It hides on a list with nothing in it. Add a thing and it appears.
