Completed things

What happens to things once you check them off.

Why you'd care

On a day, seeing what you finished next to what you did not is the record of the day. On a long project list, finished things are clutter between you and what is left. Twos lets each list decide.

In place, or collected

Each list either leaves finished things where they are, checked off, or gathers them into their own collapsible section.

Change it for one list with Keep completed inline in that list's settings: open the list, then List settings from the ... menu in its header. Settings Lists & things Show completed things inline only sets the starting choice for new lists.

Top or bottom

When a list collects its finished things, Settings Lists & things Completed things at top decides whether that section sits at the top or the bottom. It applies to every list at once.

Going further

In place is better for days. On a day, seeing what you finished among what you did not is the record. On a project list, collecting them out of the way is usually better.

Auto-sort keeps indented things together. In an auto-sort list, a completed thing stays under its parent until the parent is done too. See auto-sort.

Settings that change this

Tips

  • Leave completed things inline on days and collect them on long project lists.

If it's not working

I changed the setting and my list did not change. Settings Lists & things Show completed things inline only applies to lists and days created after you change it. Lists and days you already have, including upcoming days that were made ahead of time, keep their own choice. Open the list, then List settings from the ... menu in its header, and change Keep completed inline there.
