Email notifications send you an email when a reminder goes off, and when its alerts do, as well as the usual push.

Email notifications are part of Twos Plus. Plus

Why you'd care

A push is easy to miss. It disappears when you clear your phone, and it never reaches you at a computer where Twos is not open. An email waits in your inbox until you deal with it, which is exactly what some reminders need.

Turn them on

There are three switches, and each one is off until you turn it on:

Emails go to the address on your account.

How it works

Alerts get their own email. A reminder at 3pm with a 15 minute alert sends one email at 2:45pm that starts "In 15 minutes", then another at 3pm.

Emails arrive within about a minute. Your email provider can add a little more on top. Email is never as instant as a push, so keep pushes on for anything time critical.

All-day reminders email at the same time your all-day notifications use. Turning off all-day notifications turns off their emails too.

Finished things stay quiet. If you complete a thing or delete its reminder before the time comes, no email is sent.

Going further

Private things stay private. A blurred thing, or one on a locked list, emails as "A private thing" with none of its text.

Memorize cards only show the prompt. The email never includes the answer, so it cannot spoil the recall.

Reminders that repeat every hour do not email. That would be twenty-four emails a day, which is more than any inbox needs.

There is a daily limit of 50 emails per account, so a busy day cannot flood your inbox.

Turning it off. Every email ends with a link that turns off just that kind, like "Turn off reminder emails". The Unsubscribe button your mail app shows next to the sender does the same. The Email notifications switch in Settings Your features turns all three on or off at once, and shows how many are on.

Tips

  • Use email for the reminders you act on at a desk, like paying a bill or sending a file, and keep pushes for the rest.
  • If emails feel like too much, turn off just the kind you do not need rather than all three.
