Mention a person

Typing @ and a person's name on a shared list hands that thing to them.

Why you'd care#

Mentioning someone is how you hand something to them without leaving the app or writing a message. It works like assigning, without a formal assignment field.

The 60-second version#

On a shared list, type @ inside a thing, start typing the person's name, and pick them from the menu. Their name becomes a chip on the thing.

What happens next#

They can be notified. The mention reaches them in the app, and by email if they have that turned on.

It lands in their Mentions view, which collects everything anyone has mentioned them in. See Mentions.

It is a pointer, not a task. There is no assignee field and nothing is tracked as owed. What happens next is between you and them.

Going further#

The same @ menu links lists. Pick a list instead of a person and you create a link with a backlink, which is a different feature. See backlinks.

The menu is caret-aware. It only opens when the @ is at a position where a mention makes sense, so email addresses and prices do not trigger it constantly.

Chips are color-coded by what they point at, so a person and a list are distinguishable at a glance.
