Mention a person or a list

Typing @ references a person or another list from inside a thing.

Both halves of the @ menu are paid, and they are sold separately: mentioning a person is Plusfree for accounts made before September 7, 2026, and mentioning a list is Pluscurrently free for everyone. You can keep one and switch the other off under Your Features in settings.

Why you'd care#

Mentioning a person on a shared list is how you hand something to them without leaving the app or writing a message. Mentioning a list is how two parts of your own material stay connected.

What each does#

Mentioning a person on a shared list creates a chip and can notify them, so it works like assigning without a formal assignment field. See collaborate on a list. Plusfree for accounts made before September 7, 2026

Mentioning a list creates a link to it and records a backlink on the other side, so the referenced list knows it was mentioned. See mentions and backlinks. Pluscurrently free for everyone

Going further#

The menu is caret-aware. It only opens when the @ is at a position where a mention makes sense, so email addresses and prices do not trigger it constantly.

Chips are colour-coded by what they point at, so a person and a list are distinguishable at a glance.

Mentions of a deleted list go inert. They become plain text rather than a link that leads nowhere.

Tips#

• On a shared grocery list, mentioning someone next to an item is faster than any message.
• Mentioning a list from a day is a good way to leave yourself a trail back to a project you touched.
