In Memory: September 11, 2001, will forever resonate in the memories of those who witnessed this attack on America, watching as the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers crumbled into the dust. The total number of individuals who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks was 2,996, including the hijackers. This total includes: The four planes with 265 fatalities; the World Trade Center had 2,606 deaths including emergency workers and civilians; and the Pentagon attack caused 125 deaths. All were tragic, including those of the hijackers who orchestrated the attacks in support of a corrupted ideology, an extremist view that does not reflect the ideals of many who practice Islam faithfully. Any religious extremism is tragic, and a poor reflection of others who practice their religion peacefully. All of us would do well to remember the tragedy and the lessons of September 11, 2001. This event, as well as the subsequent response of the United States, forever changed the country and impacted the world, not all in positive ways. Those of you born after September 11, 2001, are living in a very different world than the one that existed on September 10, 2001. As someone who can remember both, like many who have lived through other National and International tragedies, it is easy to recognize a loss of innocence as well as a recognition that evil refuses to die in the hearts of humanity. That is where the battle truly lies, and it is my hope that one day we will conquer the evil within.by johnataylor on TwosIn Memory: September 11, 2001, will forever resonate in the memories of those who witnessed this attack on America, watching as the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers crumbled into the dust.
