Notes • July 15, 2025by johnataylor on TwosFun Fact: In 1998, workers renovating Benjamin Franklin’s former London home discovered a hidden cache of over 1,200 human bones from at least 10 people in the basement. Rather than evidence of murder, these remains were from Franklin’s friend William Hewson, who ran a secret anatomy school using Franklin’s house for dissections at a time when cadaver supply was limited and grave-robbing was common. This little-known fact combines the world of science and history in an unexpectedly macabre way—Franklin’s legacy literally had skeletons in the closet.
