Tues Feb 25, 2025by iSophist on TwosThis is why I'll never be rich. I can't find it in me to sell someone something they can do themselves with a $20 subscription to Claude, ChatGPT, or Boodle. The AI marketplace is getting saturated with "innovations" that are essentially just fancy wrappers around existing AI models. I keep seeing creators and entrepreneurs charging premium prices for "specialized chatbots" or "custom AI tools" that are really just GPT or Claude with a new coat of paint. Here's what often happens: They access OpenAI or Anthropic's API at mere pennies per thousand tokens, add a sleek interface, write a few prompts as system instructions, and suddenly it's a "revolutionary AI solution." Don't get me wrong - there's value in good UX design and in creating purpose-built tools that solve specific problems. Some of these wrappers genuinely save time and streamline workflows for their intended audiences. But too many are selling access to capabilities that users already have through their existing subscriptions. It feels disingenuous to charge people for something they could build themselves with minimal effort. Perhaps that's why I focus on teaching structured approaches instead - helping people understand how to create their own systems and workflows rather than selling them a slightly modified version of what they already have access to. It might not make me rich, but it lets me sleep well knowing I'm offering genuine value. What do you think? Is there real innovation happening in these AI wrappers, or are we seeing a gold rush of repackaging without substantial added value?
