Thu Aug 8, 2024by Andi on TwosI was a volunteer for a mental health/peer-to-peer support app for almost 3 years. I quit the team last week because I’ve been treated unfairly too many times to count, and this one was the last drop. For the longest time, I thought I was only worthy or a good person if I sacrificed myself and my mental well-being in order to help others. And I thought that was my “calling”. To, regardless of how much it was hurting me, support everyone. Now… I realized I don’t need to be a volunteer or to have a status or a badge in order to support. Actually, it’s even better to do it without the weight of expectations. I am happy. I’m not constantly on edge expecting someone to treat me badly simply for the fact that I had a status. So this is a reminder that you don’t need to go all out in order to help others. There’s so many different ways to do it and they’re all valid Now, I’m hoping I’m helping people by being open and honest on my blog. And I feel so passionate about it. Thank you to everyone who’s embarking on this journey with me!
