Notes from conversation w/ Andreas (TwosVC)
by Joe · 91 things on Twos
- All in all, Twos is about community. Community-powered, community growth, community success. So the more we lean into that the better.
- On the topic of the "business version" of Twos which transitions Twos World into a feed for business publishing/connecting
- Get other people to build the business side for you
- Go out, create something that is easy - a mini list of a training program (start at UT)
- Get them to learn how to use Twos as a marketing tool for their companies
- Have those people go out and recruit businesses
- Only 2/10 may get it, but then those BDRs are managing it all
- Restaurants, flower shops, small business owners
- What does community mean? As little change to the underlying tool as humanely possible.
- Building for business is going to become insanely boring and your employees will start to resent it
- If you want to start an enterprise SaaS company, then just start a new company
- Cutting Cesar
- Build/update the press kit based on what Cesar ~did~ get us
- Mass outreach campaign directly to editors/reporters yourself
- Hello [Name],
- One really interesting KPI
- Detail what you have built
- Where we have been listed (link to press kit)
- Add them to dedicated email list for PR that we blast every 15 days
- ✓ Message to Cesar: 2 months in we thought we would have at least one piece of national coverage. We're not seeing the bump we needed. We are going to put our engagement on pause. We need to focus on the short-term metric stuff. Thanks for your help on the press kit. Let us come back and pay you what you deserve. The intros haven't happened and we need them to happen.
- User bump we had when we "unleashed" the community on twitter
- At some point in the future, put together a little case study of what happens when we get our community activated to do something
- ✓ Share community wins from yesterday's uptick in users
- Businesses are spending the most money on companies that do not feel like they are made for business
- We will be doing a Repulic/community oriented raise at some point
- Keep doubling down on consumer and community and they are these people
- On the topic of making Lexie our first hire
- Overall, Andreas likes the fit. Seems like she can bring an element to our business we crave at this stage.
- Does Lexie actually have engineering experience or is it all product management/front end
- Expectations of the role she would have to fill
- Constant content production cycles
- What is the content, where is it getting posted, ideas, editing
- Where we're gonna do it
- When we're gonna do it
- PR/Influencer outreach
- Any Twitter or insta post that is a notes app, engage with them, let's measure, see what happens, experimentation
- Pitch competitions research
- ===
- Events for influencers
- Planning, Execution
- Influencer relationships
- Additional help in community stuff
- Hustle and dealing with ambiguous tasks
- Really test and ink out culture fit for Lexie
- Offer her escalating comp - the end goal is $50k, starting at $30k, and a $2,000 budget, will help you tremendously. You will make millions if we hit this right.
- No titles for any employees until we are 10 employees deep
- "Content at Twos"
- Everyone is just working on solving the problems that we have with Twos
- "If you want a title, go work at fucking verizon"
- On the topic of Jedda taking over our instagram
- Can't give Jedda full reign of Instagram but she can push posts to us for approval
- ✓ IP Handover agreement/IP assignership
- I would do Jedda in parallel with a v1 of community badging, ie people within the community who want to help, and we can incentivize them with beta features, free merch, and all-premium features, but especially driven by the badging
- Don't make it frequency based, but make it impact based.
- Way incentivize internal community growth
- Working with SumTech
- Push back a little on the price
- ✓ It does not make sense to separate web and mobile - so both
- Especially at this level of cost
- We know what the value of this is equity. And it is very valuable to us, for you to have equity in this project you need to play a much larger role
- Put yourselves in the position that this is an opportunity for Dillon to have a winning founder and it might not be any of his other founders
- We know you can do great work for us, but we are an opportunity for you
- If you were in our position you know we can't spend this much at this stage
- Stretch out the time horizon another 30 days
- What do you think about asking Dillon what it would cost to just redesign exactly what we have currently? The layout improvements would be very important but a visual overhaul would be too
- On the 18-months runway plan
- Linearly you would have to grow 5,000 DAUs a month
- Probably won't happen in Jan. Feb.
- It's certainly is possible (even likely) but won't be linear
- Probably more of an S curve
- So therefore, come July 2023, we should be adding 8-10k per month
- We're gonna bump up our spend, but we don't know how it's really gonna change
- Week over week DAU growth - focus on rate, not result
- New Budget + Reasoning (below)
- Since we are a content and community company, tool spending will be a bigger spend than we anticipate
- Bitchin analytics, bitchin content, content placement, content retargeting, automated follow-up tools
- This will replace paid ads
- Paid ads will not capture the right user
- It is a catch-all bucket of when you have $50k in your balance sheet and it is obvious that we need to be doing it
- Throw out the traditional playbook - we are a community growth platform
- It is not disposable, compounding, personal
- The monthly net burn on paid ads is just no good rn. Building that skill set makes no sense to me right now. Building community skills is much more important.
- The more money we can put into the tools right now it will be more worth your while
- OnlineJobs.PH
- As it realtes to a content writer: That's the thing that Marcus and Kevin did, now you do that for Twos content
- The next year and a half is "Time to tell people about Twos - bring them into the community"
- Related to paying a TikToker / finding TikToker's to make videos for us
- No
- But if I can get Sam to get one of his influencers to post about Twos for free
- Loser has to do the other person's job for the day
