Housekeeping note: I’m still waiting on payment from two members of the group but assuming those come in, here are the updated payout amounts for our total pool of $1,700. 1st: $1,100. 2nd: $400. 3rd: $200. Week One is in the books and we are staring down the barrel of Week Two. Week One was a rousing success in terms of getting the group from around 8 people last year to 17 this year. We added some old faces and some new, but everyone was ready for the start of the greatest betting season of the year. In a shocking twist, only 5 of our 17 members had a winning record Week One. I’m sure there were some opening week jitters but now it’s time to really dig in. Things kick off on TNF between the Chargers and Chiefs and it will be interesting to see if anyone has the balls to pick this close divisional matchup. Without further ado, let’s get into our Week One awards. What a surprise! Our fearless leader and the king of locks went a perfect 5/5 to kickoff the season. I would be shocked if he ever lost again. Going 3/5 is as gritty as it gets. These two got in the mud, made some tough picks, and came away with a small profit. These two aren’t looking for glory- just trying to grind their way through the season. Hunter joined the group on the literal morning of the first Sunday of the season. He splashed onto the scene like Vince Young and went 4/5 in his first ever week in the pool. However, only time will tell if his career pans out like Vince’s…. Logan went a clean 0/5 this week in what some people call a “reverse Blakey Locks.” But as Mark astutely pointed out, he went 0/5 Week One last year and still won the pool. There are 16 Sundays left to make up ground so there is no need to fret… yet. Good luck to everyone Week Two and may the locks be with you.
