- Origin (how it came to be)
- Parker Klein, CEO, and co-founder of "Twos," first had the idea for his startup while interning at Qualcomm in San Diego, CA.
- His manager suggested he begin writing things down he was doing so he could remember them for future roles.
- Such simple advice, with powerful significance. Parker did not hesitate. He started writing things down and immediately noticed the impact it had on his productivity, peace of mind, and memory.
- He used various tools like paper, Apple Notes, Evernote, and google docs, writing more things down every day.
- Although, there were inherent problems with the tools he was using. From slow loading, disorganization using many tools, and exclusively private notetaking, Klein sought a better solution but found none.
- After his internship, while at a Padres game with his father, Klein had the idea for a new tool that would allow people to capture *things* ie pieces of text that are exclusive of the page they are written on.
- Value prop
- This would allow people to write *things* down, organize them easily, and choose which *things* they want to share with others.
- Klein turned to his father and said "I am starting this tonight."
- Though Parker had no experience developing apps, he began to whiteboard his idea and teach himself how to program on mornings and nights to make Twos "the best place to write *things* down."
- "*Things* can be any *thing*, like your wife's favorite flower, or the day your child took their first steps."
- "Remembering things feels good, makes you more thoughtful, and allows you to take advantage of more opportunities" Klein continued.
- Fast forward four years when Klein met his now co-founder, Joe Steilberg, at a startup in Austin, Texas.
- Steilberg graduated from the University of South Carolina was a degree in finance and was on the real-estate side of the tech startup formerly known as "TrustWork"
- "I hated Joe at first" Klein recalls "We were at our morning stand-up and I remember Joe saying 'why don't we hear from the developers?' which was not well received"
- Despite their rocky start, Klein and Steilberg became friendly and would stay in touch even after their departure from Trustwork.
- "One day I called Parker with a software developer's favorite words 'I have an app idea that I need your help with.'"
- It was an alternative for athletes and politicians using screenshots of the notes apps for major announcements. There were enough parallels to Twos that Steilberg abandoned his idea and started working with Parker toward the best place to write *things* down.
- Klein went on to work at Google in San Jose as an iOS developer for gmail while Steilberg secured a position at a private equity firm in Tampa, FL.
- When Google went fully remote, Parker decided to up pack his apartment and move cross country to Tampa where the 'Twos Guys' become roommates and co-founders.
- It was not long until both Klein and Steilberg left their full-time positions thanks to the early validation of the tool.
- Raise
- Since then, Twos has organically accrued over 4000 active users and recently closed their pre-seed fundraising round led by TampaBay.ventures.
- "Our goal is to tell the world about all the *things* they can remember and share with Twos. From people's names, favorite quotes, or family recipes, you can write every *thing* and stay organized with Twos" Steilberg said
- Why we’re the future
- In the not-so-distant future, Twos will be re-releasing the social side of the platform dubbed "Twos World" where users can discover and save valuable information from others. Unlike Google or Facebook, users can aggregate and share their personal *things* and monetize their valuable lists.
- Klein and Steilberg have a big vision for Twos and want it to be the go-to-solution for millions of people to write, remember, and share *things*.
- "We want to help people remember *things* because forgetting is a problem that can be solved by a quick, easy, and accessible place to write *things* down."
