Potential feature ideas from AM user research. Onboarding ipad landscape - gifs are too high on screen. Think aloud as much as possible, describe what you are seeing, thinking, and trying to do. Please don't worry about hurting my feelings, we are doing this to improve the app, so we need your honest feedback. Started with onboarding. Said she would normally watch if she needed to know what was going on. Was able to watch and absorb most of the gifs. She did not retain anything she learned from the onboarding during the scenario. Something to pay attention to. . Feel free to ask any questions as we go. Do you have any questions? No. What do you currently use to write things down? Usually paper, and very rarely notes. But I do not find notes to be useful. What sort of things are you writing? I do not write down very much. I am very visual. I have one big desk sized calendar in my pantry. If it is a real thing I put it on the calendar. I try not to make an engagement unless I am looking at the actual calendar. . My life has been dangerous without my calendar. Notes I just try to remember. How do you decide where to write them? Why do you choose that option? What do you like about it? It is visual - I can remember where I wrote it, what color it was, where it is located. I can remember what it looked like. . What do you wish they could do? Since it's physical - I do not like that it is in just one place. When I travel, I take a picture of it and try to read things from that. . “as an aside“ - people have been digitizing calendars for 25 years. I used to have one that was hand held and I hated it because everything looked the same. I could not customize it. The things that help me remember, it did not have any of them. People have been keeping their calendar digital for decades and I am not one of them. . Would you ever change? What would cause you to change? There are things I think of during the day that it could be handy to put down. And I love the ability to move things around so easily. On notes you can only copy and then where am I going to put it? . For me: if my paper calendar was on the screen and I could manipulate it with a stylist that would be nice. Cashiers with Chris and Lanelle. And then the calendar would make a list. Somehow writing it is better than typing for remembering. . Moving things around is very helpful. . Can you create a list for an upcoming vacation to Cabo? Things you want to bring and things you want to do. First wanted to ask what day she was leaving. Started by writing her things down on today. Wrote down all the tasks she needs to complete on Today. 'Pick up dry cleaning' . 'Stop Mail'. 'Buy sunscreen'. Wrote down bathing suit and hit sublist - realized she did not want to name the sublist bathing suit and then wrote down pack to create the sublist. Did not do the actual scenario - ended up just starting to write things down. . Make a sub list of things you need to bring: (PACK). Towels. Chairs. Boogie board. Sun screen. Umbrella. Cooler. Make a sub list of activities at the beach:. Build a sand castle. Apply sun screen. Read. Go in ocean. Scrolled up to the top outside of sublist and did not know how to create a new sublist. Back button IS intuitive. Wanted to swipe and then move - accidentally completed. then when she wanted to move some of her things to the list, she pressed the move button. Accidentally got onto May 5th - asked her to get back to today. Was able to do it with side menu. . Asked her to select her things and then see if she knew how to create a sublist - . Instead of moving her things she then hit sublist again - and then found the matching list. . Change helper text when finding a duplicate list to 'Move things to XYZ list that is matching'. Despite having selected 'use existing list' she still had to delete the other sublist on today. Which was intuitive in the thing action bar. Can you turn the things you want to bring into tasks? Once she was told the word 'format' she was able to find it. . How would you change all your things to tasks? Select circles are pretty far to the right when in landscape mode. Did not remember the format button even after she selected. Went to list actions looking for format again, did not find it. . Renaming your sublist happens too frequently when trying to drop it down. Clicking on a list or sublist should not rename - we can add a list action for that? . Can we make select all just select the things inside of the sublist. Can you complete a few of those items? easy enough. Can you add this list to the day you are leaving? Landscape mode ipad, move modal only showed 4/6 shortcuts for move. . Was able to get back to today through side menu. Can you create a reminder to leave for the airport at 11 am on July 6th? Reminder is easy. Can you write down a book recommendation for Harry Potter, star it, and move it to today? Wanted star to be in format, but it was not. Should star be in format? . Did not know to click on the dash to create a star. Great, we're done. What are your thoughts about your experience, generally? I would be too lazy to learn it myself - if it weren't for you I wouldn't learn it. “If we made the learning experience more fun, would you enjoy it more“. No, that would piss me off. .
